Tax advice from a salesperson or at a BBQ or from a bar stool is not advice worth listening to.
Sales people want the sale and will tell you any old rubbish to make it happen. Buying a $150,000 Dodge RAM does not equal $150,000 refund from the ATO.
Your mates might be trying to help, but the advice they receive is about them, not you. And they may not be listening to their expert either, or their expert says yes to wrap up a conversation they have had 8,000 times and then goes and follows the actual law. A boat is generally not tax deductible, unless you are a ferry company.
