Accountex Australia

Last week the very first Accountex conference was held in Australia with presentations from fintech and industry experts, not to mention stands hosted by finance apps and services.

Nicole was invited to be part of a panel discussing the BIG bookkeeping issues – tech, pricing & business model evolution.
Here are the best bits about technology:
As bookkeepers we need to take our own advice – running our businesses like businesses – its not just a job and its never too early to invest time and/or money in tech for your firm.

Top 3 apps for a bookkeeping firm:
Xero sits at the top (so we don’t have to count it in the limit of 3!)

Firstly you need an engagement tool – you should start the way you intend to continue – compliant and paperless!
I’m a fan of Ignition – we’ve been using it since 2015. It makes it easier to create engagement letters and that means we actually do it. (Ask about the special bookkeepers package – tell them I sent you).

Task management/workflow is vital for you when you have a team, but equally important to record what you do, just in case something terrible happens to you, a trusted colleague could step in to support your clients. And to free up headspace, you can record tasks to do tomorrow or create a rainy day fun list.
Xbert is my favourite, but you could start with the free version of asana.

ReceiptBank for expense management, would be the 3rd most important tool. I love xero, but without source documents you’re flying blind. You can upload, store and search for all kinds of things, its a good electronic filing system (ditch the filing cabinet). It can accept e-invoices so you don’t need to redesign your systems.

And bonus inclusions – Canva and Airbrush – can’t live without them for the socials. You can get both of them for free!

What were your favourite sessions at Accountex this year? What are your key takeaways?
