International Womens Day 2023

This week we attended 4 International Womens Day events!
We picked up a little gem from each.

Lane Cove Council held a breakfast for local small businesses where Kellie Rigney shared her experiences with her lifestyle brand Zjoosh.
Our takeaways are:
– It might be a business, but you can always be kind.
– hire for the things you can’t or don’t want to do

Accounting Innovators Australia & AccountingHeart held a lunch specifically designed for our industry, focusing on innovation and technology for gender equality in accounting. Our table was full of wonderful peers.
Great speakers and content, the highlights for us are:
We are all leaders & we need to practice big leadership.

You get what you get and you don’t get upset
or
you create change

Dinner was hosted by a girls high school, the community of old girls/teachers/parents/friends raised a number of points. Our favourite viewpoint was about inclusivity – the focus is often on mothers, we need to focus on all women (and not forget the older women in our community).

And another breakfast, this was presented by Elladex. Thank you for the invite to join you Nerida & the Accura Financial Group team.
The key message we heard was to let people know where you want to go, so they can point you in the right direction, help you navigate and open doors for you, your community can’t assist you if they don’t know what you need.

We’ve been nourished by food and thought with all of the events we attended.

Bookkeeping is an industry predominantly made up of women, however, the wider finance industry is dominated by men – mindset changes are still needed about women’s work and the hierarchy of the money management space.
Great conversations can lead to change, and that has advantages for everyone. Cupcakes and pinkwashing benefit no-one.
