Worthy Wage Day

You’ve managed to find the right employees, great! Its unlikely they’ve agreed to work for you for free (and it would probably be illegal if they did), so you have to negotiate their wage or salary.

The National Minimum Wage in Australia is currently $21.38 p/h or $812.60 p/w for workers not covered by an award. (You did notice the use of the word minimum.) This is likely to increase again in 2 months time, awards usually increase for the first full pay period after 1st July each year.

FairWork provides details of payrates for each employee skill level under that award (which may be higher than the national minimum), allowances may also need to be paid. You can search FairWork Pay and Conditions Tool https://www.fairwork.gov.au/pay-and-wages/minimum-wages to determine the minimum you can pay each employee.

But, there is more to wages than just an hourly rate. Much more.
Super needs to be paid on behalf of workers (and some contractors).
The National Employment Standards cover minimum entitlements for staff.
You can’t work your team into the ground – maximum weekly hours need to be considered. Some awards will have rest period and shift gap requirements.
Full time and part time employees are entitled to various types of paid leave and public holidays.
Casual employees are entitled to leave.
and can convert to full or part time in some circumstances.
At the end of the working relationship – termination and redundancy will need to be looked at.
