Xerocon – technology is only ever a copilot and not a replacement for advisors

We’re back at the desk after a week at Xerocon.
We had a great time reconnecting with our favourite app partners, chatting up some new ones, hearing where our industry might be heading, being motivated & uplifted and hanging out with our peers & friendly competitors.

We scored front row seats, you couldn’t get any closer to the action!

There was a focus on AI, Will Buckley Xero AU country manager said: I’m going to be really clear: AI should not take anyone’s job in this profession. Building trust, having meaningful conversations informed by data, and harnessing the latest technology, is where the real magic happens.

Xero says: Our leadership team — including new Chief Product Officer, Diya Jolly — shared the latest enhancements to our platform that will help accountants and bookkeepers grow their practice, help their clients succeed, and get the most out of Xero. These include several AI-powered product features and experiments that will help you work smarter and more efficiently.
To be honest – we’re most excited about a direct Amex bank feed coming soon to xero!

Xero’s One Step report shows business revenue is 2.2x greater for early tech adopters.
Xerocon provides an opportunity to chat to app solutions in the ecosystem.
We’ve already met Work.Guru which we are investigating for project/job costing for a few clients.
Rippling may be able to improve payroll process for our construction clients.
Receiptbank had a HUGE announcement about their xero integration – we can’t wait to see and test it out.
Our good friends at Xbert presented at Heather Smith‘s precon event, we’re glad we signed up with them some time ago, lots of great innovation to support us supporting our clients.
Hello again to our friends at Lightyear, we couldn’t agree more – you start with paper you end up with rubbish!
Ignition has been helping us look more professional since 2015 – good to see you again.
Airwallex is one of the newer apps we’ve been using to help our clients with foreign currency payments and virtual debit cards – thanks for the social catchup on Wednesday night.
Is it even a conference if you don’t get a hug from Tim at Everperform – we miss you still.

Running our businesses better, by utilising technology, employing best practice and looking forward is always important for us. There are endless improvements to be made, you can’t rest on your laurels – legislative changes are constant, small business owners expect more and new tech assists us, but will never be able to replace us and the way we partner with our clients. Tech is just one of the tools in our kit.

Accounting (and bookkeeping) have an image problem. Accounting is considered the 2nd most boring profession and uni enrollments are falling. How do you show outsiders the fun we can and do have? How do we change perceptions of bean counters and what can we do to make bookkeeping more attractive?
The wrap party at Ivy was a great example of the fun we have!

See you at the next xerocon!
